solemnly sway
to that stardust melody
of forgotten days
as I read to you
as the record plays
the sun sinks slowly
and as the light grows dim
we leave the lamp off instead
the pupils of my eyes widen
darker than the Euxine sea
to catch the print that fades
more with each turning page
and in the corner
you lean back in the cozy chair
breathing deeply
eyes closed and a faint smile
I wonder if you hear Hoagy or me
though you seldom have patience for poetry
